Stamp Out Hunger - 2012 Servant's Heart volunteers collected food from Garfield Park and Beech Grove Post offices. This is the nation’s largest one-day food collection, which for the past five years has collected over 70-million pounds of non-perishable food items such as canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice. The hunger problem is usually at its most critical during the summer when school breakfast and lunch programs, often the only source of stable nutrition for millions of children, are suspended. The Garfield Park Post Office facilitated the compassion of the community in a big way with 8180 lbs. of food collection. The Beech Grove Post Office collected 5,133 lbs. of food. Servant's Heart volunteers collected the food to be distributed to families in need.
